The historical and cultural landscape where the memorial complex “Battle for the Wounded on the Neretva” in Jablanica is located represents a commemorative site connected to the events of 1943, when members of the Yugoslav Partisan (National Liberation Army) units saved more than 4.000 wounded and sick people. This site therefore holds great symbolic and historical significance.

The memorial complex “Battle for the Wounded on the Neretva” in Jablanica was opened in 1978, marking the 35th anniversary of the famous Battle for the Wounded. It was officially opened by Josip Broz Tito himself. The complex was established as part of a network of memorial museums across Yugoslavia and played an important educational role.

The importance of this authentic historical site is further confirmed by the fact that in 2009, the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina declared the historic area – the memorial complex “Battle on the Neretva” in Jablanica – a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The memorial complex includes the building of the Museum “Battle for the Wounded on the Neretva” along with accompanying facilities: an event space, an assembly area with an eternal flame, the demolished bridge, and the Bunker building.
